One of the questions we get a lot is: How can we type in Greek fonts on a Windows machine?
Here are the 8-simple steps you need to follow on a Windows machine:
Step 1
Go to Start, Control Panel, Region and Language

Step 2
Click on the Keyboards and Languages tab and then Change keyboards

Step 3
Click on the Add… button

Step 4
Select the Greek Polytonic keyboard

Step 5
Click the Apply button

Step 6
Select the EL option in the bottom toolbar to enable the Greek keyboard

Step 7
This is what the Greek keyboard looks like. To enable the accent, use the ” key before typing the letter.

Step 8
In a Word document, make sure the Greek language option is selected.

And that’s all there is to it. This step-by-step guide should apply to all recent versions of the Windows operating system. In a subsequent post, we will outline a similar method for the Mac computers.

Dear Sir/Madam
I noticed in word document to enable the accent, use the ” key before typing the letter.
I tried the ( ”) key but the accent is showing as comma (,) and the font changes to a different font. Then I tried the key (;) and it worked but the font changes. I there an easier way to do the above. Much appreciated.
Hmmm,
Interesting question. As I’m writing this I verified that (at least on a Mac computer) I can type the greek accent by typing the ” key and then immediately the letter.
I believe the steps are the same in a Windows environment. I will verify this. Anyone else have an answer to this?
Ari, what system do you use? Windows or Mac? If you are using microsoft windows, then the ; key is used to put the accent.
Yianni, I use microsoft windows, I tried the ; key and it works for the accent. Any reason why the font changes in size? Thanks Yianni.
Ari, I’ve tried many combinations on my system to actually see any change in the font size, but to no avail. There shouldn’t be any change in size and I can understand how frustrating this must be.
Guys,
Great job with this site. I review it daily and have emailed the sign up page to many others. I like how you give the grammatical category of each word and use it in a sentence. It would be even more helpful if there was a another line showing the conjugation or declension of the term and possible additional sentences using the term in singular, plural or different tenses. This way the reader could gain from the additional vocabulary and slowly learn grammar as well. Anyway, thanks for the site.

Niko. Thanks for your suggestions. We will try and integrate some of your proposed changes in the near future.
